Explore Carnaval Ponceño: Parades, Costumes, and Music

El Carnaval de Ponce, en Puerto Rico, se conoce como el Carnaval Ponceño.  Es un evento especial que se celebra todos los años, dura una semana y termina el martes de Carnaval. Personas de todas las edades se disfrazan y se ponen una gran variedad de vistosos y coloridos disfraces. Los desfiles son armoniosos y alegres. Las tradiciones de este Carnaval, que se remontan a la época medieval, se mezclan con la creatividad y la imaginación de hoy en día. La celebración incluye bailes y música. Los desfiles del Carnaval de Ponce tienen lugar tanto de día como de noche. Numerosas personas acuden a la ciudad para asistir a los desfiles. 

Il Carnevale di Ponce, a Porto Rico, è noto come Carnaval Ponceño.  È un evento speciale che si tiene ogni anno, dura una settimana e termina il Martedì Grasso. Persone di tutte le età si vestono con una varietà di costumi colorati e vistosi. Le sfilate sono armoniose e gioiose. Le tradizioni di questo Carnevale, che risalgono all’epoca medievale, si mescolano con la creatività e la fantasia di oggi. La celebrazione include balli e musica. Le sfilate del Carnevale di Ponce si svolgono sia di giorno che di notte. Un gran numero di persone arriva in città per vedere le sfilate. 

The Ponce Carnival in Puerto Rico is known as Carnaval Ponceño.  It is a special event held every year, lasting one week and ending on Mardi Gras. People of all ages dress up in a variety of bright and colorful costumes. The parades are harmonious and joyous. The traditions of this Carnival, which date back to medieval times, are mixed with the creativity and imagination of modern times. The celebration includes dancing and music. Ponce Carnival parades take place both during the day and at night. Large numbers of people come to town to see the parades.

LETTERATURA ITALIANA: “Febbraio” di Gianni Rodari

“Febbraio”, splendida poesia di Gianni Rodari (1920-1980). Nel testo, l’autore con parole semplici riassume la magia e l’autenticità del mese di febbraio. Ogni mese dell’anno può avere la sua voce unica. In “Febbraio” la realtà viene resa giocosa e divertente attraverso il contenuto culturale tipicamente italiano e la rima. 


«Febrero», una espléndida poesÌa de Gianni Rodari (1920-1980).  En el texto el autor resume brevemente la magia y el significado del mes de febrero. Cada mes del año puede tener su propia voz e identificación.  En pocas palabras, la realidad se hace lúdica y divertida a través de contenidos culturales típicamente italianos y rimas.

“February,” a wonderful piece of poetry by Gianni Rodari (1920-1980).  The author in short summarizes the magic and the meaning of the month of February. Each month of the year can have its own voice and identification.  In a few words, reality is made playful and fun through typically Italian cultural content and rhyme.

sono il mese dei travestimenti,
balli, canti e divertimenti.

ARTE ITALIANA: La Cupola di Brunelleschi

Il Duomo della Cattedrale di Firenze (1420-36), è stato realizzato dal grande Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1446). La più grande volta del mondo,  maestosamente domina la città di Firenze. L’arte geniale del Brunelleschi consiste nell’aver applicato il principio geometrico della prospettiva agli edifici. La struttura nella sua apparenza esteriore rivela armonia di forme, chiarezza spaziale, e raffinatezza dei particolari decorativi. 

The Duomo of Florence Cathedral (1420-36), was built by the great Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1446). The largest vault in the world, it majestically dominates the city of Florence. Brunelleschi’s genius art consists in having applied the geometric principle of perspective to buildings. The structure in its outward appearance reveals harmony of form, spatial clarity, and refinement of decorative details. 

El Duomo de la Catedral de Florencia (1420-36), fue construido por el gran Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1446). Es la cúpula más grande del mundo y domina majestuosamente la ciudad de Florencia. El ingenioso arte de Brunelleschi reside en su aplicación del principio geométrico de la perspectiva a los edificios. La estructura en su aspecto exterior revela armonía de formas, claridad espacial y el refinamiento de los detalles decorativos.
