The flag is the national symbol of the Republic of Colombia. There are several versions about the origins of the Colombian flag that have changed throughout history. The Colombian flag is composed of three horizontal stripes: a first upper yellow stripe that occupies half of the rectangle, and the lower half divided into two stripes, one blue in the center and the other red at the bottom.
Yellow: Represents the wealth of the country, the abundance of the Colombian soil, gold, sovereignty, harmony, justice and agriculture, as well as the Sun which is a source of light.
Blue: Represents the sea and the two oceans that unite Colombia with the rest of the world.
Red: Represents the blood of those who fought for sovereignty, and which translates into love, progress, strength and power.
Flag Day in Colombia is celebrated on August 7.
